According to data tracked by Bloomberg, Pakistan’s rupee has been the best global performer this month and has gained 11 percent since hitting a record low last month. Meanwhile, the SBP kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged as external financing concerns eased amid indications that the country may soon get bailout approval from the IMF. A summary of the agreement signed between Doha and Islamabad was approved by the cabinet on Monday.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb told news agency Reuters ahead of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Qatar starting on Tuesday. Qatar has requested assistance in security-related aspects of the World Cup, which begins on November 20, and Pakistan’s military has proposed signing an agreement between the two states for this purpose, the cabinet briefing said.

Doha: Pakistan’s wait for victory in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers is on.

Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Cambodia means they will now have to wait another four years to end a 32-match unbeaten run in qualifying matches for world football’s showpiece tournament, which dates back to 1989. The 4-1 aggregate loss meant Pakistan exited the first round of joint qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in China. For the next four years, they have to do without competitive matches until the start of the next qualification cycle. Pakistan, whose football scene has been marred by politics, corruption, and incompetence over the years, only made it to the qualifiers.

1950 – International Debut for Pakistan

Pakistan made its debut in international cricket in October 1950 with a tour of Iran and Iraq. Pakistan lost the first match against Iran 5-1. Pakistan’s next international match came in the Colombo Cup where the team played their first match against India which ended in a goalless draw. In the 1950s, Pakistan played internationally in the following Colombo Cup editions which were held in India in 1954, followed by East Pakistan in 1955 and the Asian Games in the Philippines in 1954, and Japan in 1958. The summary did not provide any details of the contract, such as how many workers could be sent.

All funds are expected within twelve months, SBP Deputy Governor Murtaza Syed told a briefing.  Arab countries have pledged to support Pakistan only after securing an IMF program, while the Washington-based lender is seeking commitments from Saudi Arabia. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported in June that Seoul would send five police officers to Qatar with expertise in counter-terrorism and law enforcement ‘know-how’ such as security, close combat skills, arrest tactics, and maintenance.
